A Brief Guide to Installing Inflatable Bladder Dams

The inflatable bladder dam is an innovative alternative to the classic cofferdam. They are ideal for flood prevention and various dewatering projects from boat ramps, bridges, concrete repairs, pipeline construction, utility lines, pool maintenance and more. Portable, reusable, and effective, they also require minimal manpower and equipment for installation.

Installing Inflatable Bladder Dams

Inflatable bladder dams can be installed in just about any scenario you’ll encounter. Whether you’re using it for flood prevention or dewatering a worksite, installation is easy and much faster than traditional methods. Consider the following three worksite scenarios*:

For dry surface scenarios

For locations where no water is yet present, the bladder dam is simply unrolled and inflated. This type of scenario has the simplest installation procedures. Typically, this method is used in flood prevention, before the flood waters arrive.

Static water worksites

Often, there is standing, non-moving water present at the worksite. This is with projects such as boat ramps, pipeline construction, other construction projects, and more. The bladder dam barriers are buoyant and will float on the water’s surface. Simply place them at the water’s edge, unroll them onto the surface, and float them in position before filling them.

When there’s moving water

Sometimes you may have moving water at your worksite. It could be for a bridge repair or other projects. Due to the force of the moving water, it’s necessary to position the barriers by controlling the ends with hydraulic equipment such as a track hoe or crane. You may also need to anchor at least one end of the bladder dam to the shoreline.

The Inflatable Bladder Dam Advantage

Traditional dewatering methods such as sandbags and other cofferdams will cost you more time, money, and hassle. If you’re looking for an easy way to streamline frequent operations, this is it. Inflatable bladder dams can be installed 3 to 5 times faster than traditional methods. Safe, strong, and versatile, they are your ideal dewatering solution. Make the switch today and you’ll never go back.
