What Makes The Aqua-Barrier® Cofferdam Design So Effective?
Many people look for flood control and dewatering solutions that are safe, effective, and easily installed. Since 1996, Hydrological Solution’s Aqua-Barrier® Cofferdams have been manufactured in Texas and sold throughout the United States. Hydrological Solutions offers a unique patented cofferdam design making it the most effective dewatering solution on the market.
The Key to the Design: A Three Component Stabilization System
Internal Baffling System
The first component in our stabilization system is the Internal Baffling System. Without the Internal Baffling System, the cofferdam would not be able to withstand the pressure against invasive waters. Our patented internal baffle system will lock into place when the barrier is exposed to uneven water pressure. The Aqua-Barrier® system gains its stability through the tension of the inner restraint baffle(s). Once the system is inflated the baffles prevent the barrier from rolling. As the barrier is exposed to water pressure there is a natural adjustment towards the side of the least hydrostatic (water) pressure.
Freeboard
The next stabilization component is the use of Freeboard. Freeboard refers to the amount of inflated barrier above the surrounding water level. A minimum of at least 25% freeboard is required in all Aqua-Barrier® installations. Freeboard requirements may increase if the barrier is exposed or has the potential to being exposed to high water velocities (3-ft or more per second), slick soil conditions and other relevant hydrostatic conditions.
Surface Friction
Lastly, the Aqua-Barriers® are engineered to utilize surface friction in order to stabilize when exposed to uneven hydrostatic pressures. If exposed to weak soils or other surfaces, the barrier may slide and require additional pipe support, a wider footprint, or freeboard.
Our cofferdams are constructed from industrial grade vinyl coated polyester. This fabric is laminated with a base of woven polyester between two layers of flexible polyvinyl chloride. This material makes handling, maintenance, storage, and repair of the barrier quick and easy. Combined with a stabilization system comprising of Internal Baffling, Free Board, and Surface Tension, the Aqua-Barrier® Cofferdam becomes one of the most uniquely engineered cofferdams available.
